S.M. Sohail Trust
S.M. Sohail Trust is named after a legal luminary of Karachi, who was an active
participant in the freedom movement as President of Provincial Muslim League and also
President of Bihar Relief Fund.
He was an advocate of education and founded Sharfabad English School. His son, Professor Dr.
Syed Tariq Sohail, an eminent Psychiatrist, Educationist and Civil Society activist, inherited
Mr. S. M. Sohail’s passion for education. He established the S.M. Sohail Trust in 1996, which owns
Jinnah Medical and Dental College and its allied teaching hospitals: Sohail Trust Hospital and
Medicare Cardiac & General Hospital. We truly believe that organizations with a clear-cut
mission, vision, and goals, are driven with purpose, aligned and coordinated, and fueled by wins
along the way.
In addition to secondary and tertiary care, this hospital is the nexus for primary health care needs of the entire population of the area. Out-Patient, Executive Clinics and In-Patient services are available free of charge in all Medical, Surgical and Allied Departments. To successfully carry out all of these activities and services S.M. Sohail Trust requires generous contributions by individual donors, corporate sector and the community in general. We are providing free of charge treatments which includes surgeries, ICU and admissions in wards.
We are now planning to expand our services to serve the community. We entirely rely on donations and Zakat to meet our operational expenses for providing free treatment to all our patients.
The donations we received helped us provide thousands of people with FREE check-ups and timely treatment, and disease management.

Mission
“S.M. Sohail Trust is established to promote education in the field of Arts and Sciences and to provide and promote Financial Aid, Scholarships and Grants to needy students and to establish institutions for providing education, technical knowledge and expertise and to establish libraries and health centers”.
The vision and mission statements set the tone to achieve pre-eminence among its peer
institutions. The strategic plan of the trust is derived from its vision and mission while providing
a roadmap for achieving excellence in the following areas:

SMART Strategic Goals
1. Expand campus facility of Jinnah Medical College at Korangi by the end of 2024, in order to
broaden students’ exposure to diverse patients, while promoting patient’s welfare and
community services with subsidized rates using our resources optimally.
2. Establish at least two new educational institutions within the next three years: one focusing
on management sciences and the other promoting education in arts and sciences, and
scientific research using detailed feasibility studies, securing necessary resources, meeting
regulatory requirements, and recruiting qualified staff and faculty. The success of both
initiatives will rest upon the number of students enrolled and the quality of the programs
offered.
3. Augment strategic networking with at least two local businesses for creating synergies
amongst each other’s resources, technical expertise and outreach. In order to undertake
joint projects and welfare drives that serve our communities at large. Progress will be
measured by the establishment of successful partnerships and the implementation of
impactful initiatives.
4. Maintaining excellence in effective/contemporary education by fostering students-
centered learning environment for innovative teaching. Through systemic reviews of the
curriculum by the Curriculum Committee and Academic Council, evaluated against
programme’s learning outcomes, students’ progress, and annual reports.
5. Advance scientific infrastructure to provide core research facilities to faculty and students,
creation of new knowledge through transformative research and promote values of
learning, leadership and services, to be assessed through quality of research, number of
faculty publications and disseminating within the community.
6. Develop and implement a patient-centered care program, which may result in a reduction
of 20% in patients’ complaints through proper resource allocation and staff trainings,
measured through patient’s satisfaction surveys done on every quarter.
7. HR to develop man-power forecast based on the Trust’s strategy by the end of this year,
while maintaining a diverse pool of applicants for both faculty and staff positions, to
support Trust’s activities without interruption.
